American Cities series documents the urban landscapes of Albany, Chicago, Detroit, Flint, Houston, New York, Ohio, Philadelphia, Portland, Providence, and Selma. Thanks to the support of the Alturas Foundation, Scott was able to travel throughout the US to research the cultural, political, and iconographic history of transferware and its collection by US institutions. New American Scenery is a nuanced representation of the American landscape—urban and rural—that considers 21st century issues of globalization, energy generation and consumption, capitalism, and immigration, as well as the human impact on the environment.
